Enjoy Blu-ray movies on HDTV with WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player via Pavtube ByteCopy
When backing up Blu-ray Discs to NAS service for playback with WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player and watching BD movies on HDTV, you might get involved in quality and subtitle issues. To keep lossless video quality, you can either copy m2ts streams straightly from BD, or make the whole BD into an ISO image file. In that case the Blu-ray PGS subtitles will not be displayed when watching on HDTV, as WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player does not supports playing PGS subtitles. In order to have subtitles displayed correctly, you have to convert and embed the subtitle into video by transcoding. So this time you lose image quality and can never turn the subtitle off. Is there a software that can pass-through video and audio streams and meanwhile convert the Blu-ray PGS subtitles to something that WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player can read? Yeah, there is- the Pavtube ByteCopy software was developed for this. Find below how to copy Blu-ray Disc to lossless MKV file and convert the PGS subtitle to DVDsub format, which is compatible with all the DVD players, HD media players and BD players.
Download Pavtube ByteCopy:
The software is easy of use. You just load movie from source Blu-ray Disc, click the convert button and wait. Download a trial of Pavtube ByteCopy and follow the short guide below to make lossless Blu-ray Disc to MKV backup with selected subtitle and audio streams retained.
Backup Blu-ray movie and convert PGS subtitle for WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player
Step 1. Run Pavtube ByteCopy, and click “Load Disc” button to import movie files from copy-protected Blu-ray Disc/DVD.
Step 2. Click the “Edit Disc” button to select desired subtitles and audio tracks for all chapters. The software keeps all subtitles and audio streams by default, so just uncheck the ones you don’t want.
Step 3. Choose “HD Player” in dropdown list of “Format” box, and click “Settings” button. Here you uncheck the “Encode” box for video and audio stream to pass-through the original BD streams without quality loss, and check the “Encode” box under “All Subtitle Streams” to set “dvdsub” for WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player playback. Press “OK” to confirm.
Step 4. Back to the main interface, and press the “Convert” button to start backing up Blu-ray movie to MKV files with selected audio tracks and subtitle streams.
The main movie with subtitles and audio tracks will be extracted and packaged into MKV container format without transcoding to ensure you get lossless movie clips; and the PGS subtitles will be converted into DVDsub format. In this way you get perfect lossless Blu-ray videos with multiple audio tracks (TrueHD, DTS-MA, AC-3, DTS, etc) and subtitles included, and correct display of Blu-ray subtitles for enjoying Blu-ray movies with WD TV Live HD Media Player.

Step 2. Click the “Edit Disc” button to select desired subtitles and audio tracks for all chapters. The software keeps all subtitles and audio streams by default. Choose “Lossless” in dropdown list of “Format” box if you’d like to backup Blu-ray video stream without quality losss.

In this way Pavtube ByteCopy extracts the main movie with selected subtitles and audio tracks from disc and seals the contents into MKV container without transcoding, which means you get lossless quality MKV videos.
Some helpful tips for first-time users
1. DVD-ROM will not read Blu-ray Disc, so you need a Blu-ray Disc drive (either external or internal) for ripping Blu-ray Disc.
2. The Pavtube ByteCopy is able to crack copy-protections of commercial Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, third-party BD decryption software like AnyDVD is not necessary.
3. When playing selected title in Pavtube ByteCopy, the software plays video streams only. There is not audio or subtitle- we can’t decide which to play from multiple audio tracks and subtitles.
4. Best video quality is kept when you choose lossless output. To properly play lossless Blu-ray contents back will require a high horsepower computer or powerful HD media player to support the data rate involved in MKV format- the only format that Pavtube ByteCopy uses.
Set audio language and subtitles by preference.
By taking advantages of Preference settings can you save both time and labor. Click “Tools” menu-> “Preference”-> “Audio” tab to set audio language by preference. Check the audio languages you always want to keep. E.g. if check English and French box, English and French audio tracks will be selected for all titles by default the next time you run Pavtube ByteCopy.
Set desired subtitles under the “Subtitle” tab in the same way.
The settings will be applied to all future discs/movie files until user preference is reset.
Convert audio tracks and subtitles to fit for your player.
Things happen when your BD contains high-quality 7.1 audio tracks while your media player/AV receiver plays 5.1 channels only. Pavtube ByteCopy lets you down convert TrueHD and DTS-MA 7.1 audio to AC3/AAC/DTS 5.1 audio and Blu-ray SGS subtitle to DVDSUB for your player.
Select main movie Title and click the “Edit Title” button to select and encode audio track streams and subtitle. The “Edit Title Streams” screen pops up with three tabs, Video tab, Audio tab and Subtitle tab. Switch to “Audio” tab to set audio streams. To select an audio stream, select its corresponding “Check” box. Check the “Encode” box if you’d like to transcode audio to a different codec/format. Available audio codecs includes AC3, AAC, DTS, PCM, MP3 and MP2. Set subtitles under “Subtitle” tab in the same way. Available subtitle format is restricted to DVDSUB, which works well on almost all the video DVD combos and HD media players.
Create customized output format for shrinking Blu-ray contents.
There are three options for exporting Blu-ray and DVD movie in MKV format, i.e., lossless, HD Player, and Custom. Lossless option lets you creates 1:1 copy of Blu-ray contents without quality loss. HD Player option copies video stream and meanwhile turns TrueHD or DTS-MA 7.1 audio into Dolby Digital 5.1 audios. Custom option allows you to create customized output option for use.
Here’re steps to create new output option.
1. Select the whole disc, click “Edit Disc” button to enter “Edit Disc” window.
2. Find the “Format” bar, and select “Custom” from dropdown list of “Format” bar.
3. Click “Settings” button to set and save new output format in “Setting Disc Streams” window. Check the “Encode” box, and set customized video codec, size, bitrate, frame rate, audio codec, sample rate, bitrate, channels and subtitle codec.
4. When everything’s settled down, click “Save” button, give a name to the newly created format, and click “OK”.
5. Click “OK” on “Setting Disc Streams” window and back to “Edit Disc” window. You’ll find that the new format is added to dropdown-list of “Format” bar.
1. By default the video size is “original”. When you make changes to video size, please also check the “Encode” box below “All Subtitle Stream”. When a subtitle looks fine on 1920*1080 video, it might go beyond the screen when the video is resized to 1280*720, so make sure the subtitle is converted as well.
2. Do not set 6 channels for audio when MP3 or MP2 codec is selected. Do not set 1 channel when DTS is set as audio codec.
3. A lossless Blu-ray movie can take up space ranges from 20GB to 50GB. If you want to cut down file size, try setting smaller value in video “Bitrate” instead of using “original”.
18000kpbs- excellent HD video quality
8000kbps- DVD video quality
2000kbps- video for portable media players (e.g. Galaxy Tab, Archos 101)
512kbps- video for regular mobile phones
4. When H.264 is set for encoding video streams, you may take advantage of CUDA encoding. Follow “Tools”-> “Preference” -> “Others” to set CUDA encoder.
5. In order to play a video clip properly on your device, make sure the video is encoded with proper codec (ByteCopy offers H.264, Xvid, MPEG-2 only) and packed in proper container format (MKV only for ByteCopy) with proper bitrate, frame rate, resolution, audio channels.

[Fast Speed]Rip/put/playing/watching Blu-ray movies to MP4/AVI/MKV for Galaxy Tab
This guide is written for Galaxy Tab users that would like to put their Blu-ray and DVD movies to Galaxy Tab for playback, and to help you figure out:
How to crack BD copy-protections and rip Blu-ray movies to MP4/AVI/MKV format?
What exactly are the best video formats and settings for Galaxy playback?
How to take advantage of NVIDIA CUDA implementation for accelerating BD ripping speed?
The Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper software is known among movie lovers for staying current with Blu-ray encryption schemes. The software is developed for users to back up Blu-ray Disc and standard DVDs to PC in various way: lossless backup, 1080p/720p quality, and specific templates for Galaxy Tab, PSP, PS3, Xbox, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4, etc. With full support for Blu-ray MKB v20 encryption method, the Blu-ray Ripper v3.7 rips up to most recent commercial Blu-ray Discs (e.g. Inception, Toy Story 3). In addition, Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper is a CUDA enabled Blu-ray Ripper software that lets you take advantages of GPU encoding work. By default NVIDIA CUDA implementation is activated to accelerate Blu-ray ripping process. CUDA implementation improves the ripping speed to 3-4 times faster(learn exactly data).
Step-by-step guide of ripping Blu-ray to Galaxy Tab:
Download a free trial of Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper first. NOTE the trial puts a watermark on generated videos. To get watermark off you need to purchase the retail version.
Step 1. Load source BD to the Pavtube Blu-ray Ripperv3.7.
Connect an external BD drive to PC, place in source Blu-ray Disc. Ensure the desktop is networked. Install and launch the Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper v3.7 software (trial), click the BD icon to load Blu-ray from BD drive.
Step 2. Set an optimal video format for Samsung Galaxy Tab
Although Galaxy Tab exports videos up to 1080p, the 1920*1080 HD formats are not ideal solution for watching videos from Galaxy Tab. Comparing with SD video formats, the HD formats generate much bigger files. And you can hardly tell the differences between SD and HD quality when playing on Galaxy Tab. A 90min movie could takes up 6-18GB if it is encoded with 1080p HD formats comparing with 2-4GB in SD. There are visibly differences on a 48’ HDTV, but not on a 7’ Galaxy Tab. So you are encouraged to click on the pull down menu of “Format”, and then follow “Common Video” to choose > DivX, Xvid, MPEG4, H.263, H.264 encoded formats.
According to my test, the AVI, MP4, WMV and MKV format work well with Galaxy Tab. 3GP format is not recommended, for this format gives vague image for Galaxy Tab playback. The best format for Galaxy Tab? H.264 encoded MP4 or MKV format must be the top choice. The two clips I tested not only play great on Galaxy Tab, but also take up less disk space. If you also have an iPad, “iPad>> iPad Video H.264 (*.mp4) format” is your top choice, because this format is good for both iPad and Galaxy Tab.
Step 3: Put and Blu-ray movies/DVD on Samsung Galaxy Tab
Click “Convert” button to start converting videos to Samsung Galaxy Tab on Mac. After conversion completes you can click the “Open” button to find the converted files. Now the videos are optimized to be friendly for Samsung Galaxy Tab.
To get higher video quality, simply click “Settings”, find “Bitrate” in Video column, and set it to “high quality” before the video to Galaxy Tab conversion starts.
To watch HD contents on HDTV from Galaxy Tab, you may choose 1080p video. Just follow “HD Video” and choose DivX HD AVI or MPEG-4 HD MP4 video format. Note 1080p MKV is not acceptable for Galaxy Tab.

Blu-ray backup-back up commercial Blu-ray Discs to ISO/blank BD/lossless M2TS streams/1080p HD videos
Backing up a self-made Blu-ray Disc is straight-forward. You just place the Blu-ray Disc in a BD drive that is hooked up with your PC, and copy the BD contents as copy regular HD videos. With BD authoring software like Ulead MovieFactory and Nero, it takes several clicks to burn a BD copy. However, backing up a commercial Blu-ray Disc is much complicated. Commercial Blu-ray Discs are copy-protected and will not let you backup the movies to PC or copy them to blank discs. AACS and BD+ copy-protections are implemented to almost all the Blu-ray movies on sale. In another word, you will not able to backup commercial Blu-ray Discs unless you figure out a way for cracking/by-passing copy-protections first.
There are multiple BD ripping tools that are claimed to handle with commercial BDs, but most these are of no avail. PavtubeBlu-ray backupis recommended as a best Blu-ray backup tool for its decent decryption ability, fast speed and rich BD backing up solutions:
Crack AACS, BD+ protections and make full backup of Blu-ray Disc with “Full Disc Copy” feature;
Backing up Blu-ray m2ts streams to hard drive without quality loss;
Back up and convert Blu-ray movie to 1080p HD MKV, AVI, MP4, WMV, TS, MPG, MOV, etc;
Compress Blu-ray HD contents to VOB files of DVD quality for authoring DVD copy.
With all these BD backup solutions, you can easily burn a BD copy, make Blu-ray ISO image, play lossless BD contents on PC and HDTV, and burn Blu-ray to DVD. Find details of backing up Blu-ray below:
Required hardware: PC with Blu-ray Disc Drive
Required software: Pavtube Blu-ray backup (click to download a free trial, or purchase a retail version of Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper which is free of update)
Step-by-step guide to tell how to backup Blu-ray Disc:
Step 1. Load Blu-ray Disc for backing up.
Hook BD drive with your PC, place Blu-ray Disc into the drive. Run Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper software, click “BD/DVD ROM” to import blu-ray movie from Blu-ray disc.
Step 2. Decrypt and backup Blu-ray Disc to hard drive.
A. Full Disc Copy- make full backup of entire BD directory for burning ISO and BD.
Simply click “Full Disc Copy” button to backup BD to PC. In this way all contents of the Blu-ray disc will be copied to your hard drive, including the menus, titles, ads, etc. Full Disk Copy aims to help users to backup the whole contents of a Blu-ray disc (or standard DVD) in the easiest and fastest way. The backup costs much less time than ripping movie to other format. Once it’s finished ripping check the folder structure by adding in the following folders.
From here you can burn Blu-ray movie to ISO image, or burn BDMV folder to blank Blu-ray Disc with Tsmuxer and other Blu-ray authoring software.
B.Directly Copy- backup Blu-ray m2ts streams only for PC playback.
Click “File Mode” to switch to file mode, and then click on “Format” bar, select “Copy>>Directly Copy” in profile list, and then click “Convert” button to start copying Blu-ray to m2ts streams. In this way you get Blu-ray m2ts video streams only. VLC player can be used for playing m2ts clips on PC. Blu-ray m2ts steams are H.264 or VC-1 encoded high-definition contents that require powerful PC to ensure smooth playback. Provided that you get stuttering and skipping image, follow method C instead.
C. Back up and convert Blu-ray movie to 1080p HD videos.
Click on the pull down menu of “Format” to select output format, follow “HD Video” and there are 1080p video formats including H.264 MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, Divx AVI, MPEG-TS. Select a desired preset as output format and click “Convert”. This would greatly reduce the file size and meanwhile suffer invisible quality loss. Windows Media Center plays the HD videos without a hitch. With a CUDA implemented NVIDIA graphics card, the ripping speed can be 3X+ faster.
D. Backup Blu-ray for authoring DVD.
Click on “Format” and find a desired format in “DVD” template for authoring DVD. There are 16:9 NTSC and PAL modes. The format creates DVD quality VOB files, which can be easily imported to DVD authoring software for burning a DVD copy.
You can find more Blu-ray backup solutions and Blu-ray ripping tools at http://www.pavtube.com/blu-ray-ripper/blu-ray-backup/.
Why backup Blu-ray Disc?
Firstly, Blu-ray Discs are easy to break, a backup copy is safe and permanent, even if the data get lost, there’re ways to recover.
Secondly, a digital copy protects your Blu-ray Discs from scratches – will you still hunt for a movie in hundreds of DVDs and BDs while you can easily search and play it with a remote control?
Thirdly, a backup free you from BD region code restrictions. Commercial Blu-ray Discs could be Region A, B and C, while not a BD player reads full region Blu-ray Discs. Things happen that your BD player refuse to read the BD you BD purchased from oversea market (unauthorized region). Things will not happen to Blu-ray backup copy, as it is region-free.Hope the PavtubeBlu-ray backupcan help you.
